15 Questions To Ask Before Booking Your Venue

Image
One of the biggest expenses for your wedding is booking the reception facility. If you've never planned an event before then how do you now what questions to ask to find that perfect venue. That's where we can help!  ATMOSPHERE PRODUCTIONS has worked with hundreds of facilities over the last 35 years and our expert advise could save you time, money and a stress-free wedding reception. What is included? What is not included (tables, chairs, linens, silverware, tableware, decor)?  What minimums are needed to be met?  What taxes are involved?  What do extra hours cost to extend an event?  What times can you be in and out for setup and photos?  Are certain vendors (such as caterers) only allowed or can y ou bring your own?  Is there a cake cutting fee?  Are there smaller minimums for off peak dates or days?  What time must the reception end or music stop?  Is there parking?  Will there be other events going on?...

Atmosphere Productions: Site Inspection: The Lodge at Maneeley's

Image
Whenever we've never set-up and played at a facility, ATMOSPHERE PRODUCTIONS always try to visit the location and do a site inspection.  We've had the pleasure of playing at Maneeley's , in South Windsor, but never the new adjoining venue room called The Lodge. Our clients, Bethany and Thomas are planning a Ceremony and Reception at The Lodge in October, so we took a drive to Maneeley's and had a walk around.  It was easily accessible with two main entrances and a handicap ramp.  The room is spacious and perfect for a rustic wedding or if you like the exposed wooden walls and exposed beams.  This casual and unique setting holds from 100-225 guests.  The grounds are beautifully designed and maintained and are perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony, including three gazebos, a bridge and a pergola.  We're looking forward to taking care of Bethany and Thomas and working with the staff at The Lodge. Atmosphere Productions:The Most Important Tip For Your Reception Sound

Image
The location of the entertainment in relation to the dance floor and your guests at any event is a crucial element. A good rule of thumb is to place the entertainment right on the dance floor (see above floor plan). This allows the entertainment to see and communicate with all guests and quickly react when reading the crowd. We do recommend that the music levels should be concentrated on the dance floor for the comfort of your guests and for the total enjoyment of the reception. Each ballroom has it's own acoustic imprint which will either give great sound or not. We do a lot more than just set-up the equipment and play the music. Sometimes we can electronically correct the sound - often times it's totally out of our control. Your input to the banquet facility and it's staff is essential. When you complete the facility ballroom floor plan and seating arrangements, it is crucial that you consider the location of the entertainment system (i.e. speake...

5 Suggestions On How To Make Your Facility More Vendor Friendly

Image
Let’s be serious. There are facilities that we love to play at and others that we tend to cringe when we realize where we are going. It’s not that we would refuse to work at certain facilities, but it would be nice if everyone worked together just a bit more for the sake of the client.  Here are some things to think about when looking around your facility to see if you are vendor friendly: Risers—risers may be nice for a band, but as DJ’s, it’s just one more obstacle that we need to pick up our gear and place on top. A simple banquet table (6 or 8’ skirted) is all we ask for.                      Loading/Unloading—do you have an area where the DJ needs to come in? Is it clear and are the hallways wide enough for us to roll in our gear? Stairs and curbs are a DJ’s worst enemy. Most of our gear is either designed with wheels or to go on a cart with wheels. Some DJ companies even charge an extra fee for facilities ...

Atmosphere Productions: The Zula Bar, Hartford

Image
We stopped by The Zula Bar and Restaurant at 901 Main St. in Hartford for a meeting recently.  This unique downtown eatery features dining and adult beverages including an array of beer, wine and martini's served from a sheet metal bar.  We had a brief tour by owner Deniz Yalim, who showed us the small but spacious lower level.  Ideal for Bridal Showers and small post wedding gatherings.  The Zula Bar & Restaurant is certainly worth a trip downtown. Atmosphere Productions: The Farmington Gardens

Image
Over the last few years a number of banquet facilities have cropped up in the Farmington Valley area.  The latest is The Farmington Gardens , located along Route 4, at 999 Farmington Ave., in Farmington. On my brief walking tour of the facility, I was reminded that this was once a garden center, now transformed into an elegant ballroom. Philip Chabot is the General Manager and he seems to have made a commitment to having a facility catering to the wedding clientele.  Although, there is more than enough room for bar and bat mitzvahs and corporate events, seating 340 guests in the main dining room, plus another 130 in the greenhouse room. The exterior boasts a stone patio, off the greenhouse room, leading to an expansive lawn and manicured garden, which will be beautiful for those formal Bridal pictures. We wish The Farmington Garens much success and look forward to performing in this facility in the near future.  Atmosphere Productions LLC is...
