Every year, at least one of our couples, surprise us with something completely different and unique for their wedding reception.  Sarah and Gary certainly did.  From the Ceremony and Reception location to the music selections, Sarah and Gary wanted elegant and classy with a low key touch to the special events. The weather was perfect for an outdoor ceremony, under a tree on the 600-acre estate known as Candlelight Farms Inn, in New Milford, CT featuring majestic views, rolling hills, ponds, stone walls historic buildings… and did I mention the heliport? Sarah and Gary planned a much more casual affair, and surrounded themselves with close family and friends for their special day.  Atmosphere Productions provided an outdoor sound system during Cocktail Hour while guests played lawn games and children played in the garden. Sarah and Gary selected specific music for Dinner that reflected their musical style and taste (Gary is an accomplished tr...

I-Spy Game At Your Wedding

Image
I-Spy with my little eye…. We provided the entertainment for Mary Elizabeth and Dan’s wedding and thought this was a truly unique idea to incorporate I-Spy into the reception. It’s super simple and is a great way to get your wedding guests excited and mingling! Not only is it nostalgic for all the adults, but it will keep the little ones entertained as well. When making your I-Spy wedding game list, keep in mind the type of photos you want your guests to capture. These moments are the ones that your professional photographer might not be able to spot. For example, your Grandma gettin’ down with the groomsmen or the adorable flower girl stuffing her face with red velvet cake. Try and personalize the list as much as possible, and remember to keep it fun and unique! Put your I-Spy list on each table at the reception, either by using a place card holder or simply printing multiple copies to place at each table setting. Keep a few pens or pencils available so your guests can check...

The Bouquet Toss.... To Do or NOT To Do?

Image
Some call it a Wedding tradition…. Others call it the ritual humiliation of the single women! Let’s get some perspective and a short history lesson:  Tossing the bouquet is a tradition that stems from England. Wedding guests, both men and women used to try to rip pieces of the bride’s dress and flowers in order to obtain some of her good luck. The men often times would become too rowdy and attempt to remove the garter from the bride themselves.  To escape from the crowd the bride would toss her bouquet and run away.   Luckily, nowadays, our brides have an easier time….. At todays wedding receptions we now do “The Bouquet and Garter Ceremony”: A garter toss is when a bride’s garter is removed from her leg by her spouse. It is usually then tossed over the shoulder to a group of single male guests. Then we have all the single ladies gather and the bride throws a bouquet of flowers over her shoulder to an eager young lady to catch.  It is said that whoe...

Hiring Your Wedding DJ: Auditioning At Another Bride's Wedding

Image
Should you audition your DJ at another Brides wedding? Auditioning a DJ at another bride’s wedding has been a controversial subject. I will put it in a logical perspective here, and give you the real scoop. Simply ask yourself if you would want strangers walking into your reception (often in street clothes) for the purpose of seeing one of your vendors? It is not the proper time or place to audition a DJ. There are several reasons why it is not even useful for anyone involved. First, it is an obviously uncomfortable position for both the wedding party and the visiting party. Uninvited guests stand out like a sore thumb, and are an un-welcomed distraction. Second, unless the prospect sees the entire reception, they don’t get any value out of the visit. Also, they are seeing someone else’s unique wedding, and unless the DJ is of the “cookie-cutter” variety, the prospect again will get no value without knowing wha...
