Operation Santa 2011: Our Marines Say Thanks

Image
Thank you all so much for your support.  Some of you have been our main support through all four care package drives that I have organized and some of you are new, but I cannot fill packages and ship boxes without you. I was over whelmed with the response from the community during our Operation Santa, because of all of you we filled 538 care packages, more than 8000 pounds, it took 6 mail trucks to pick it all up from New Britain City Hall.  I could not have done it without all the volunteers that showed up ready and willing to organize, fill boxes and clean up. And I can't thank Mayor O'Brien enough, when we needed space to organize and fill care packages Mayor O'Brien gaves us unfettered use of his personal conference room! Attached please find the responses I have received from our Marines deployed to Afghanistan.  Our gifts mean so much to them, all these little bits, snacks and personal care items that they can not get their hands on.  I wanted to shar...

Operation Santa: The Marine Corps Family Foundation

When our friends Marjorie and Craig told us about the Marine Corps Family Foundation, Operation Santa, we just had to help and get the message out to everyone: "For the last two years I have organized a care package drive for the Marines deployed overseas during the holidays.  I started this during the 2008 holiday season because my son Ryan, a Marine was deployed to Iraq.  It was a way for me to be a part of what he was doing in Iraq, it kept me busy so I wasn't thinking about the danger he was in every day of his deployment.  It was a way for me to honor the brave Americans who were deployed with my son, who put their lives on the line every day. It is so important for these Marines to be remembered at this time of year.  They are away from home, away from their families.  They will not be home for Thanksgiving dinner, they will not wake up Christmas morning to open presents with their families. I am working with a new organization this year, the Marine ...
