Amanda & Eric - May 1st
I was a little hesitant when the call from Amanda & Eric came just a few days before their wedding reception to let us know that the wedding was going to be featured on TLC's "Four Weddings". I had never seen the show and was apprehensive about wedding reality shows in general.... since these types of shows seem to be so far from "reality".
Nevertheless, I caught an episode and was pleasantly surprised. The concept and execution was quite good....Four brides attend each others weddings and rate each. The bride whose wedding scores highest wins a free honeymoon. Interestingly, the brides seemed to commend each other rather than reign criticisms.
So, on the day of the wedding, we arrived at The Spa at Norwich Inn for an early set-up and was greeted by Peterman, one of the producers of "Four Weddings" and Jill Fahey, the Wedding Coordinator for The Spa. We signed off on the necessary photography & television release forms and then explained the basic. Simply put, they wanted us to do what we normally did at a wedding reception and the video production camera crew would capture it all.
In conjunction with The Spa we set-up sound and custom up-lighting (Amanda selected pink) inside the ballroom then set-up a ceremony sound system outside.
It was a beautiful sunny and warm spring day.... perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony. Working with the production crew, we set up microphones for the officiant and the Bride & Groom. Atmosphere Productions provided the ceremony musician. John, our violinist, played classical selections for the prelude, processional and recessional.
Normally, working with a wedding videographer is something we are used to but working with a camera crew who's intention is to produce a reality TV is something quite different. One camera crew was focused exclusively on the three "guest" brides who's job it was to "rate" Amanda's wedding. This made for some funny moments but nevertheless the short outdoor wedding ceremony went smoothly and Eric & Amanda were officially married.... with a butterfly release marking the end of the ceremony.
Cocktail hour took place outside on The Spa's deck area overlooking the garden and adjacent golf course. Atmosphere Productions provided the strolling violinist during the cocktail hour.
Eric & Amanda wanted a fun and upbeat introduction of the Grandparents, Parents & Bridal Party, so we created a special loop of Earth, Wind & Fire's "Sing-A-Song" to a standing ovation for the Bride & Groom as they went into the First Dance, Edwin McCain's "I'll Be".
Dinner was a relaxed affair with a light mixture of love songs, standards and jazz.
We worked quite well throughout the reception, with the "Four Weddings" camera crews to get the required shots for the Cake Cutting, Parents Dances and Anniversary Celebration Dance - just like we would normally do with any other wedding. Constant communication was the key.
The dancing started with Black Eyed Peas "I Got A Feeling" and the festivities ended with Amanda & Eric's selection of Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life". We created a Custom Song Edit that included portions of the Ceremony, Toast and Speeches, which had a great emotional effect on the attending guests.
Amanda & Eric enjoyed the evening by having fun and dancing with family and friends. Even with the intrusion of "Four Weddings" they added their own personality and special touches making the day unique, elegant and certainly unforgettable.... Congratulations Amanda & Eric, we wish you all the very best for the future.
