Ashley & Jake - July 10th

Image
Luckily, Ashley & Jake dodged the morning thunderstorms forecast for the mid-day ceremony.  Atmosphere Productions violinist Ben Dean provided the traditional classical music for the ceremony atop Wickham Park in Manchester, CT, overlooking the Hartford skyline. The Bride and Groom made their way back to the family home in the historic district of Manchester.  Nestled off Main Street, this beautiful turn of the last century home with an expansive backyard overlooking the valley below.  Here was a massive outdoor tent designed especially for weddings and comfortably holding Ashley & Jakes almost 200 guests.  Set up on the dance floor playing cocktail hour music was Atmosphere Productions Staff DJ Michael . In our pre-event planning meeting we had surveyed the property ahead of time and made suggestions for tent location, dance floor and electricity.  It's our experience, providing entertainment for many outdoor events, that communicating our needs a...

On-line Wedding Registry Services

These days, more and more prospective brides and grooms are registering for cold hard cash.  Since its launch in April 2002 www.TheBigDay.com , has become the most popular.  It's a lot like a traditional wedding registry, except: * Instead of china, toasters, and flatware, you get portions of your honeymoon paid for! * Instead of hoping for department store items that you don't already have, you choose fun honeymoon activities! * Instead of your guests having to trek to those stores in hopes of finding in-stock items on your registry, they can shop online from home! Becky & John - July 3rd

Image
Weddings held on or near holidays are always exceptional... New Years Eve, Christmas and July 4th come to mind particularly as singular events where the Bride & Groom, and invited guests, are determined to have fun.... no matter what! And so it was with Becky and John, who arrived at The Farmington Club ready to have a good time.  They took our advise and joined in a portion of the Cocktail Hour to meet and great guests - this alone saved a great deal of time later in the evening for the Bride and Groom to dance. After traditional introductions, we coordinated carefully with Steve from the Farmington Club, Leo & Liz Herbert from Angel Moon Photography & Craig from Classic Video Productions so that Becky and John could have family and group pictures outside with the evening light.  Atmosphere Productions facilitates complete coordination with photographers, venue and Bride and Groom, since we are not "just the DJ".  We make sure that everything runs smo...

Ian & Lauren - June 26th

Image
A hot June afternoon, just dodging thundershowers, at one of our favorite banquet facilities St. Clements Castle, Portland, CT , working with top photographers Dan & Jenn from Stephen Charles Photography and the expertise of Fran Gagnon Films .  This indeed was a dream wedding for Ian & Lauren. The wedding day started with the Atmosphere Productions String Trio performing for Ian & Lauren's ceremony at St. Ann Church in New Britain followed by our Strolling Violinist , with remote broadcast sound, for an elegant cocktail hour in the courtyard area of the Prince Edward Ballroom at St. Clements Castle. Ian & Lauren's plans for tasteful and sophisticated wedding reception continued during a leisurely dinner, with some specific song selections and one of the most genuine Father of the Bride speeches I have heard in a long time. As usual, working with such professionals as Stephen Charles Photography and Fran Gagnon Films made coordinating group photographs a...

Working with the DJ by Bob Hennessy

Image
Working with the DJ by Bob Hennessy http://www.radialarts.com/articles/weddings/workingwiththedj.html We’ve noted lately that some of the wedding services are becoming blurred or are beginning to overlap to the dismay of some vendors. In addition the working environment at weddings, on occasion, has become adversarial between service providers. We’ve witnessed examples of photographers and videographers elbowing for prime shooting space. We’ve seen DJ’s providing free photography or instant projected imagery including video and photo booths at the reception. We’ve seen photographers off the street shooting at a wedding on spec interfering with the hired pro. And then there was the priest who tried to direct the formal shooting session. Or the pushy photographer stepping on the gown and pushing past the priest for that “special moment”. A recent videographer told us about the time he was confronted by the DJ who exclaimed that it was his turn to “shine”. Well its not always like ...

Michael Jackson - 1 Year Later

Image
It's hardly believable that it has been a year since the untimely death of the "King Of Pop". In that year we've seen the release of "This Is It", the hit movie and DVD, countless TV music specials and retrospectives and even a video game by Ubisoft.  There are even plans for a Michael Jackson museum and "Captain Eo" is also scheduled for a return to Disney World at Epcot center, Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland. Before, becoming the "King of Pop", with releases like "Thriller", "Bad" and "Dangerous", I had the pleasure of seeing The Jacksons in concert on August 15th, 1981 at The Hartford Civic Center (picture). One of the most memorable concerts that I've ever seen, full of pyrotechnics, great music and Michael's signature dance moves. I will remember Michael Jackson more for his music. As a DJ for over 30 years, his music has been the soundtrack of my life in nig...
