Eric Leone - Crusin

In my unending quest of showcasing local talent, I came across Hartford's own Eric Leone via my good friend and fellow DJ Rich Edwards from SmoothGrooves on Gloucester FM 96.6FM.  Yes, sometimes it takes the roundabout way, but it was worth the wait.

Eric Leone Pritchett studied at The Hartford Conservatory School of Music where he studied jazz guitar.  He is also a very accomplished pianist, drummer, bass guitarist, and saxophone player.  After graduating from the Conservatory, Eric joined numerous R&B bands, including The Touch Band, Floyd Patterson Jr. and Ring Side, Style, and Pizzazz.

Eric met another Hartford native producer/songwriter/musician Yasha Barjona of Hush Productions, better known to many as Rahni Song or Rahni Harris of "Six Million Steps" fame.  As a result of this meeting, Eric wrote the title track for the 1987 John White CD "NIGHT PEOPLE" on Geffen Records.

Leone's first solo project was a CD called "Outstanding" which is still available.  This sophomore project includes the title track "Cruisin" which is already garnering air-play on smooth jazz radio nationally.  "Cruisin" is a perfect title and lead-in to an album of well produced smooth groove jazz tracks.  Something you can actually put on AND play all the way through...

Most of the eleven track CD is produced and written by Eric, of which the standout tracks for me are "Let's Get It On",  "Nice & Easy" and "Esta Noche".  All are instrumental tracks which showcase Eric's splendid guitar work.

Reworkings, which seem to be standard on most smooth jazz CD's these days, come to us via Stevie Wonder's "Knocks Me Off My Feet" and Quincy Jones & James Ingrams "100 Ways" which Eric, in this version, features the vocals of  Rick Anthony.

My favorite track is "City Strut", which seems to take a nod and wink to the styling's of George Benson - of which the comparison must be made.  This is a track that has summer appeal written all over it.... turn it up and play it loud!!!

A solid, well produced CD and a must have for the smooth jazz collector.  I hope to hear more from Eric Leone in the future.

Both CD's "Outstanding" and "Cruisin" are available from Eric Leone's website for purchase or download.
