Engaged…. Now What? 12 Things To Do After You Get Engaged.

You’re engaged… Now what?

Congratulations!!!! Someone’s popped the question and you said YES!!!!

Yipeeeee!!!!

Your First Task?

Call your relatives, especially the ones you never really talk to. No matter how tempting DON’T post online FIRST pick up the phone and call your family members and friends. All of them.

As a rule, no one likes to be the last to know. Consequently, getting the news via mass e-mail, or social media posts is problematic. So, set aside a few hours and go through your contacts. Together with your mom or sister or aunt or another family you can get this done in no time.

This is an essential thing to do after you get engaged.

Take A Ring Selfie

Now that you’ve called family and friends, take that ring selfie. Why? A picture is worth a thousand words. So then, go ahead and open up that social media!

Size Your Ring and Get It Insured

If the ring doesn’t fit perfectly, you should take it to your jeweler to get it sized. After all, it’s not exactly the most romantic or exciting thing to do.

Together with adding as an extension to your homeowner or renter’s insurance policy, it’s surprisingly inexpensive. By the way, it could save thousands of dollars in the long run and a very important thing to do after you get engaged.

Set A Date

Pick a date or at least a year! After “Congratulations” comes “Let me see your ring,” then they’ll ask “When’s the wedding?”. People appreciate feeling like they’re in the loop. Therefore, you don’t have to be specific until you’ve nailed down the date, time and location.

Relax! Go On A Date

Plan a night out with just your significant other. Yes, there’s a lot of stuff to do, but for now, it’s perfectly OK to hit the town and celebrate. Just the two of you.

Conversely, round up some of your best friends and family and go out for a celebratory drink. You’re engaged, and you’re totally worth toasting.

Get A Wedding Planner

Add this to your budget. If stress reduction and a little time-saving sounds nice then this is a must. A wedding planner or coordinator can review the elements of your wedding and negotiating with bakers and caterers for the best prices, finding the ideal venue and so on.

However a wedding planner or coordinator will cost extra money, so make sure the option fits into your budget before you give it serious consideration.

Start A Wedding Savings Account and Create A Budget

Remember, even a simple, small wedding costs money. Therefore, a wedding savings account is an easy way to keep cash accumulating for the big day.

Open a basic savings account at any local bank or credit union. Also, look online for higher-interest accounts at sites like ally.com and etrade.com. So then, deposit a set amount every paycheck for wedding-related expenses only.

However, before you can really move forward with any of your wedding plans, have a discussion between you and your spouse, or you, your spouse, and the parents. Talk about a budget and who will, or can, pay for what.

Ask The Parents For Their Ideal Guest Lists

Ask both your parents about whom they’d most want to invite. Be sure to tell them this is just a preliminary list and things might change. Once you have their “A” lists, you can add or edit and trim.

Start Creating Your Guest List And Wedding Party

Once you’ve spoken with the parents, you can start by asking yourself, how many bridesmaids or groomsmen do each of you want? Odd numbers or even number? Does one of you (or both) want a Best Person? Consequently, once you’ve answered these and other questions, then you can start popping the question to friends.

Post A Blog or Create A Wedding Website

This is a great way to create an historical record, so that you can look back at what you’ve accomplished. Look at your online options and decide if you’d prefer to create your own or use one of the many wedding website templates out there.

Check out the pros and cons, and then pick together.

Be Engaged and Inspired

Listen to wedding podcasts. Check out the Be Engaged and Inspired Podcast. Create a Pinterest board, Google Doc, save photos ideas on Instagram, or join an online wedding related group page.

However, you may just want create a folder on your computer to compile images of your favorite wedding elements. Keep it to yourself just for organizational purposes, or share with your wedding planner.

Say Yes To The Dress

One overlooked item to do after you get engaged is to check out Trunk Show schedules. Just Google “Wedding Dress Trunk Show” plus your State and see what pops up. You’d be surprised how much of a discount you can score on the new collections.
