What You Should Know About Your Wedding Day Timeline

Image
You’ve decided on a wedding day. You’ve picked out the church. You’ve got your photographer. What time should the ceremony be? When should the reception start? How much time do you need for photos? Planning your wedding day time-line can be difficult. Let’s break it down and see how much time you should plan for each section of your wedding day. Your Ceremony  – typically you can expect a Justice of the Peace civil ceremony to last 30 minutes maximum.  If you are planning a full mass service – you should plan a full hour to the ceremony.  If you are doing a receiving line after the ceremony – plan on about 20 minutes for every 100 guests. (If you have 200 guests, your receiving line will take 40 minutes!).  If it’s hot out, you do not want to keep your guests in the heat – let them get to the air conditioned reception site.  Exposing your guests to extreme heat for prolonged periods of time drains their energy – and they will not be as responsive later...

I-Spy Game At Your Wedding

Image
I-Spy with my little eye…. We provided the entertainment for Mary Elizabeth and Dan’s wedding and thought this was a truly unique idea to incorporate I-Spy into the reception. It’s super simple and is a great way to get your wedding guests excited and mingling! Not only is it nostalgic for all the adults, but it will keep the little ones entertained as well. When making your I-Spy wedding game list, keep in mind the type of photos you want your guests to capture. These moments are the ones that your professional photographer might not be able to spot. For example, your Grandma gettin’ down with the groomsmen or the adorable flower girl stuffing her face with red velvet cake. Try and personalize the list as much as possible, and remember to keep it fun and unique! Put your I-Spy list on each table at the reception, either by using a place card holder or simply printing multiple copies to place at each table setting. Keep a few pens or pencils available so your guests can check...

The Bouquet Toss.... To Do or NOT To Do?

Image
Some call it a Wedding tradition…. Others call it the ritual humiliation of the single women! Let’s get some perspective and a short history lesson:  Tossing the bouquet is a tradition that stems from England. Wedding guests, both men and women used to try to rip pieces of the bride’s dress and flowers in order to obtain some of her good luck. The men often times would become too rowdy and attempt to remove the garter from the bride themselves.  To escape from the crowd the bride would toss her bouquet and run away.   Luckily, nowadays, our brides have an easier time….. At todays wedding receptions we now do “The Bouquet and Garter Ceremony”: A garter toss is when a bride’s garter is removed from her leg by her spouse. It is usually then tossed over the shoulder to a group of single male guests. Then we have all the single ladies gather and the bride throws a bouquet of flowers over her shoulder to an eager young lady to catch.  It is said that whoe...

Creating Your Wedding Hashtag: 3 Important Steps

Image
Want to be a social butterfly? Want to use Instagram at your wedding?  Want to blow up Twitter? Creating a wedding Hastag is easy and needs no registration.  Anyone on Instagram or Twitter can just choose one, so you need to think carefully and plan ahead: Don't Use The First Words Or Phrase You Think Of Pick Something You Can Easily Remember Make Your Guests WANT To Use It Selecting your wording is crucial because you don't want someone else's pictures mixed in with your collection.  So selecting something that is easily remembered and fun to use, is a must. Think of your wedding date in combination with your last name, first names or initial ...or something uniquely fun that your guests will think of only you. Think alphabetic characters (a-z, no special accents) and numbers.  All else fails add a word “happilyever” or “newlyweds”. Search and test your hashtag BEFORE the wedding to make sure another couple are not using the same. Now spread the wo...

Blessing of the Hands: The Hand Ceremony

Image
Recently, we provided musicians and sound for Katie and John's wedding at The Riverhouse in Haddam, CT.  The ceremony was officiated by Humanist Celebrant and Justice of the Peace Anita Peters . Katie and John wanted to incorporate John's daughter Kayla into the Ceremony and the Sand Ceremony just wasn't original enough.  Anita came up with The Hand Ceremony. During the exchange of vows, the Bride and Groom traced their hands, with John's daughters onto a matte with a heart in the center.  During the Cocktail Hour guests then write well-wishes in the blank space outside the heart.  Katie and John would later frame for future posterity.  What a simple, memorable and unique addition to your Ceremony. If you want to add this during the Ceremony, we found this beautiful reading for you to incorporate: Blessing of the Hands "Hands are considered to be a connection to the heart, and a hand blessing symbolically brings two hearts together." by Rev. Lauri...

Lighting For Your Wedding

Image
The facility that you are having your wedding at is beautiful. The thing is - once it gets dark, it takes on a whole other look. It's kind of dark and not really romantic. White holiday lights on the fake ficus trees just don't cut it. What can you do? Candle light is great, but it only goes so far in setting the mode. Dance floor lighting is one way to bring a new feel to a facility, but if you're not into making your wedding look like a night club, then maybe a more theatrical feel to the lighting is in order. Don't forget to illuminate your cake or lighting behind your Sweetheart of Head Table - it'll enhance your pictures and your photographer will capture better pictures. This is possible through the magic of LED driven lighting effects. Ask us about the many lighting possibilities.   Atmosphere Productions LLC  is a CT Wedding DJ, providing professional mobile ...
