Using Your Credit Card Abroad by Peter Kenny

Image
If you are going abroad, then using a credit card can be the safest and most effective way of carrying currency. But what steps should you take to make sure your card is the best one to use abroad? Here is some advice about how to effectively use your credit cards whilst abroad: Pick a universal card If you are travelling overseas, then try and pick a card that you know will work in most countries. Taking store cards or lesser known cards can defeat the point of bringing your card with you. Stick to widely accepted credit types like Visa and MasterCard. Ask about fees Before you go away, ask your card issuer what the fees are for using your card abroad. If you have more than one card, then take the one with the best rates for withdrawing money and making transactions. Although you get better exchange rates with your card, this is useless if you are charged high fees for taking out foreign currency by your card issuer. Carry card issuer numbers Make sure that you have a number that you

Avoid Wedding Drama: Special Situations and Invitation Wording

Image
There are some families that may have different members in them, some that wedding books and etiquette guides are struggling to keep up with. How can you include everyone in such a way that all are equally important? Well, to a certain extent, you can not. There’s only so much room on an invitation to include everyone in your life, but for those that you must, there are ways to handle the step and passed on parents in an invitation. A Step Up When it comes to step parents, most couples feel as though they are no different from their biological parents. So, they want to incorporate them into the invitation as well. And while traditionally, the parents are included, how do you put in everyone’s name? Many invitations start off with “Mr. and Mrs. So and So would like to announce the marriage of their daughter Blah Blah to John Doe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” In order to include both sets of parents, you can just add them in at the beginning and end, denoting it with son of Mrs. Smith and

Advice For Beautiful And Economic Wedding Flowers By John Souter

Image
Couples focus on varying things in their weddings. Some will spend an exorbitant amount of money on flowers while others want to spend it on their invitations……. Still more like to focus on crafting a certain theme or ambiance. The type and amount of flowers you use depends on what is most important to you. There are other things you’ll want to think about to help you choose how much or how little you should invest. Do a site inspection with your florist for your ceremony and reception site. Keep in mind that you spend the most time at your reception site (unless they’re one and the same) so you should not invest an extravagant amount of money on the flowers for the ceremony. Unless, of course, you bring those arrangements and decorate the reception site as well. If the setting for your ceremony is a lush area with naturally beautiful flowers and foliage, you might just want to line the aisle with rose petals and decorate a few chairs. If your ceremony is indoors and very classy, flowe

Time for Photography by Bob Hennessy

Image
Your wedding day is 24 hours or 1,440 minutes or 86,400 seconds short. Why short? Because it is divided by a million things to accomplish! By now you should know them by heart but if not you soon will. That morning you’ll be busy with things like hair, makeup, getting dressed, eating. That’s right. Don’t forget eating and photography at the house. These and many, many other items are all part of the time allotment puzzle. Some photographic styles have developed purely to ease the tension associated with “the day”. Candid or photojournalistic styles don’t require stopping the action or taking away minutes you’d prefer devoting to other activities. More traditional or stylistic choices may require additional time for set up, lighting requirements etc. but can be creatively scheduled throughout the day or even at a later date. The final outcome should really be determined by your choice of photographic coverage. Whether your preference is for one or the other or a mix of both will determi

6 Unique Guest Book Ideas

Image
Here’s 6 truly unique Guestbook ideas….. Vintage Atlas – Have your guests sign the pages of a vintage road atlas, highlighting the cities they are traveling from or destinations they know the couple is interested in exploring.  Great idea for brides and grooms that have either a  case  of wanderlust or an appreciation of vintage books. Re-Use Wine Bottles – Whether you “message in a bottle” your guest book by reusing old bottles (below, left) or have your guests sign the labels of bottles to be opened in the future (below, right), this is a perfect idea for a vineyard wedding. Make sure to include metallic Sharpies if you want your guests to sign the actual bottle, so that the ink shows up on the dark glass. Advice Coasters – It can never hurt to have a little helpful marital advice at the ready.  On your welcome table have a basket of blank coasters for guests to fill out with advice and funny memories. You’ll end up using these, especially during the first year as you

Wedding Favor Ideas For Your Special Day.

Image
Wedding favors are the perfect way to show how you feel. Though your wedding guests will already know that you care about them, wedding favors give an additional touch of thoughtfulness. They don’t have to be a major item or an expensive one. Something small but meaningful as a memento of the day is all that is needed. There are so many options to choose from in wedding favors. Only your imagination limits you. You can buy them already to give out, or you can make your own. It depends only on what you want to do and the time you have to devote to it. If you plan to buy wedding favors, you can choose something that is meaningful to you and your groom or matches the theme of the wedding ceremony and reception. Personalizing them with your names and the date of the nuptials will make them all the more special. One very good option for wedding favors is a small candle with a ribbon tied around it with a picture of you and your groom attached. A softly scented candle is a very good

I’m not sure where to begin, 26 years ago 9/23/1990 we hired DJ Sam for our wedding and because we loved his personality and the life he brought to the reception we contacted him and passed his information on to our daughter for her 9/24/2016 wedding. Song Requests on Your RSVP

Image
So I’ve seen this idea of adding a line somewhere on the RSVP card where guests can suggest a song to be played at the reception.  It’s a great idea. But…. you need to plan ahead and know the advantages and pitfalls. Firstly, you need to order your invitations well in advance, so that you have plenty of time to correlate the songs from the RSVP.  Ask for no more than 3 favorite songs from your guests (If you’re tight on space and the back of the RSVP is blank you could ask guests to write their song choice there).  Put a disclaimer line that YOU (the Bride & Groom have veto power over ALL song choices.  This way requests for the Macarena, Boot Scootin’ Boogie, and the Chicken Dance will be null and void! Here are a few ideas on wording: 1 – “”We’re looking for song ideas for the dance portion of our reception. Give us your favorite dance song and you might hear it played!” 2 – “We’re taking requests! Please tell us if there’s a song you’d like to dance to! _______________

Introducing David Rusate of Hops And Spirits

Introducing David Rusate of Hops And Spirits I provide an on location bartending service catering events from birthdays and graduations to weddings and corporate outings. I have different packages pertaining to what the guest wants me to provide and what’s already at the venue for my services. So a little bit about myself… I am 27 years old and I am currently in dietetics major transferring to Uconn to pursue a clinical position as a dietician. I have been in customer service for over 12 years and have held multiple management positions. I’ve been bartending for 10 years and currently a freelance bartender. My true passion in life is making others happy; whether it’s eating healthy, exercising, finding their faith, or providing them with a good experience in customer service. A mobile bartending service is something that’s not too popular locally and I want to change that. My hope is to provide a licensed, and insured “on-location” bar service that leaves my customers and pot

What You Should Know About Your Wedding Day Timeline

Image
You’ve decided on a wedding day. You’ve picked out the church. You’ve got your photographer. What time should the ceremony be? When should the reception start? How much time do you need for photos? Planning your wedding day time-line can be difficult. Let’s break it down and see how much time you should plan for each section of your wedding day. Your Ceremony  – typically you can expect a Justice of the Peace civil ceremony to last 30 minutes maximum.  If you are planning a full mass service – you should plan a full hour to the ceremony.  If you are doing a receiving line after the ceremony – plan on about 20 minutes for every 100 guests. (If you have 200 guests, your receiving line will take 40 minutes!).  If it’s hot out, you do not want to keep your guests in the heat – let them get to the air conditioned reception site.  Exposing your guests to extreme heat for prolonged periods of time drains their energy – and they will not be as responsive later on for dancing.
