Wedding Tip - Securing the Safety of Your Digital Wedding Images

Securing the Safety of Your Digital Wedding Images By Bob Hennessy Professional photographers have known for some time that the longevity of DVD’s and CD’s are suspect. I can remember in the early 90’s manufacturers were touting the 100-year life span of CD’s. Keeping a close ear to the industry has helped professionals steer clear of those claims and find real safe guards and solutions for keeping their digital media safe. First you should know that not all CD’s are created equal and it would serve you well to do a little research as to the most reliable. The same holds true for the DVD format but currently seems to be less volatile. Volatile is not an extreme word to use in describing the longevity of these products. It’s been the experience of some that CD’s have deteriorated to an unreadable condition in months. For those of you who remember vinyl records it is easy for you to envision the scratches and marks on those LP’s making them unplayable. Well the same happens to CD...

Pastime Diversions - What To Do With Your Out-of-Towners

Image
As a lover of Jazz music, from playing Jazz/Funk records in the clubs in the late 70's to working with the late Jazz legend and Hartford resident Jackie McLean's daughter Melonae (yes "Little Melonae" is about her), then Music Director and Afternoon Drive-Time host at R&B, Soul & Jazz station WKND in the late 80's and early 90's, I've always appreciated the sheer delight of outdoor Jazz festivals.... talk about "cool and smooth jazz". It was during this past weekend's 2010 Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz , sitting along the hillside in the scenic Bushnell Park, that I realized that there is an awful lot to do in and around the Hartford area and Connecticut as a whole, during the busy wedding season.  If your planning a reception that involves out-of-towners you can show them a good time with these area activities: The Connecticut Science Center :   You can't miss this impressive new structure in downtown Hartford near the R...

Ashley & Jake - July 10th

Image
Luckily, Ashley & Jake dodged the morning thunderstorms forecast for the mid-day ceremony.  Atmosphere Productions violinist Ben Dean provided the traditional classical music for the ceremony atop Wickham Park in Manchester, CT, overlooking the Hartford skyline. The Bride and Groom made their way back to the family home in the historic district of Manchester.  Nestled off Main Street, this beautiful turn of the last century home with an expansive backyard overlooking the valley below.  Here was a massive outdoor tent designed especially for weddings and comfortably holding Ashley & Jakes almost 200 guests.  Set up on the dance floor playing cocktail hour music was Atmosphere Productions Staff DJ Michael . In our pre-event planning meeting we had surveyed the property ahead of time and made suggestions for tent location, dance floor and electricity.  It's our experience, providing entertainment for many outdoor events, that communicating our needs a...

Becky & John - July 3rd

Image
Weddings held on or near holidays are always exceptional... New Years Eve, Christmas and July 4th come to mind particularly as singular events where the Bride & Groom, and invited guests, are determined to have fun.... no matter what! And so it was with Becky and John, who arrived at The Farmington Club ready to have a good time.  They took our advise and joined in a portion of the Cocktail Hour to meet and great guests - this alone saved a great deal of time later in the evening for the Bride and Groom to dance. After traditional introductions, we coordinated carefully with Steve from the Farmington Club, Leo & Liz Herbert from Angel Moon Photography & Craig from Classic Video Productions so that Becky and John could have family and group pictures outside with the evening light.  Atmosphere Productions facilitates complete coordination with photographers, venue and Bride and Groom, since we are not "just the DJ".  We make sure that everything runs smo...

Ian & Lauren - June 26th

Image
A hot June afternoon, just dodging thundershowers, at one of our favorite banquet facilities St. Clements Castle, Portland, CT , working with top photographers Dan & Jenn from Stephen Charles Photography and the expertise of Fran Gagnon Films .  This indeed was a dream wedding for Ian & Lauren. The wedding day started with the Atmosphere Productions String Trio performing for Ian & Lauren's ceremony at St. Ann Church in New Britain followed by our Strolling Violinist , with remote broadcast sound, for an elegant cocktail hour in the courtyard area of the Prince Edward Ballroom at St. Clements Castle. Ian & Lauren's plans for tasteful and sophisticated wedding reception continued during a leisurely dinner, with some specific song selections and one of the most genuine Father of the Bride speeches I have heard in a long time. As usual, working with such professionals as Stephen Charles Photography and Fran Gagnon Films made coordinating group photographs a...
